About Us

The Law Office of Lois D. Mermelstein is based in Austin, TX, but available everywhere thanks to technology. We focus on the legal needs of entrepreneurs, startups, and smaller businesses, including intellectual property (patents, trademarks, and copyrights) and technology-related legal matters. We are technology-driven ourselves, allowing us to provide many of the same quality services of a larger law firm while maintaining the flexibility and personal touch of a small office. Our clients want to concentrate on implementing their ideas and growing their businesses; we help by making their legal lives easier.

Lois Mermelstein is the firm’s owner. Lois is a 2010 graduate of Washington & Lee University School of Law, and is licensed to practice law in both Virginia and Texas as well as before the US Patent and Trademark Office. She has drafted and prosecuted patent applications, worked on patent litigations, and has experience  involving a variety of other legal areas, including e-commerce and other intellectual property matters. She also holds bachelors and masters degrees in Electrical Engineering, and before law school worked as a software and firmware engineer and team leader, in situations ranging from large companies to two-person startups. As such, she combines legal, engineering, and business experience and speaks her clients’ language.

Lois is a member of the American Bar Association, and is active in the leadership of its Business Law and Science and Technology sections.

She is also a licensed pilot and flight instructor, and former airplane owner (before realizing that airplane ownership was incompatible with law school). She also trains her horse in the sport of dressage (known by some as “horse ballet”). In the remainder of her spare time, she attempts to herd cats.
